To report trouble with your phone service:
First verify that the problem belongs to Western Iowa Telephone. If you have a cordless phone/phones, unplug them completely from jacks and electrical outlets. Plug in a standard telephone (If you don't own one, see if you can borrow one from a friend or neighbor). If the standard phone works, more than likely the problem stems from your cordless phone.

If we were to send a service tech out, and the problem stemmed from your equipment or wiring, the minimum charge that will be billed to your account is $60 unless you subscribe to the Wire Maintenance Plan for $2.50 per month. If the standard phone doesn't work, make sure that all phones are hung up.

Also try unplugging answering systems, cable TV systems and computers. Sometimes periferal equipment can seize your telephone lines and cause outages. Again, this would be your problem, and if we sent out one of our technicians, there would be a minimum $60 charge.

If you have done all the above and your phone still doesn't work, there is one more place to check. Go to the outside of your house to the Telephone Network Interface, also known as a protector or a NID. (For a picture, click here ) Using a screw driver, open your side of the box and check the wiring. Try unplugging the wire or wires and plugging them back in. Go back inside and check to see if your phone works now.

If not, you could call Westrern Iowa Telephone to come out and check things to the protector. There is usually no charge for making this check. If the problem is ours, we will repair it. If the problem is yours arising from your equipment or wiring, and you ask us to fix it anyway, you will be charged in concurrence with FCC rules.
